Introduction:

YouTube is the biggest Video Search engine on the earth. Everyone knows the name of YouTube. You have two types of profile option

  1. Profile
  2. Channel

To make a channel, your profile is mandatory. The YouTube profile is just a Gmail id. In a profile, you can create upto 50 channels from a single account.

YouTube URL:

YouTube channels have four different URLs pointing to the same channel i.e.

  • Your Channel URL
  • Handle URL
  • Custom URL
  • Legacy Username

All 4 have the same destinations. Let’s Understand the URLs from the Example.

  • Channel URL – Example: youtube.com/channel/UCUZHFZ9jIKrLroW8LcyJEJJ
  • Handle URL– Example youtube.com/@youtubecreators
  • Custom URL Example youtube.com/c/YouTubeCreators
  • Legacy Username youtube.com/user/YouTube

( Usernames are no longer required for channels, but your channel can redirect through this also)

Handles:

Handles are the short channel identifiers of the channel. Example @youtubecreator. Every channel has handles. But recently, we received an email and mentioned on the support site that Youtube is rolling out the handles.

New Update of YouTube URL

Recently, on 10th October, Google started emailing all channels about their new policy on Handle and Personalized URLs. YouTube will assign you one if you don’t select any Personalized URL. Whether the process has started or not, no clear indication has appeared on the Website of YouTube till now.

Previously, if you had a channel and needed a personalized URL, you should have at least 100 subscribers on your channel, then you could opt for a custom URL. In a recent email, google emailed every channel owner whether he has 1 or 2 subscribers. So still, everyone is waiting for a clear guideline for this new update on YouTube. The question remains: can anyone who has a certain number of subscribers not opt for a custom URL?

So if you can see the Video on the Website, they mentioned that they are removing the restriction of 100 Subscribers for custom URLs.

But why is YouTube doing that

A simple answer given by YouTube is that handles are easy to discover.

Check the Guideline here.

Conclusion

So finally, YouTube has ended the restriction of 100 subscribers to get custom URLs for your channel. Now you can get handles when you create the channel. You can choose your handle before 14th November 2022. After that, it will be assigned automatically. If you already have a Custom URL, you can continue this.
